Don't Go Back
Luke 17:32
“Remember Lot’s wife.”
Jesus spoke just three words that carry a powerful warning: remember Lot’s wife. She had been delivered from the destruction of Sodom. God had given her a path forward, a chance at a new future. Yet in the middle of her deliverance, she looked back. Her heart was still attached to the place God had rescued her from.
Israel faced the same temptation. Not long after leaving Egypt, they began talking about going back. They remembered the food, but they forgot the slavery. They remembered the comfort, but they forgot the chains. That is why God placed memorial stones along their journey. If they ever tried to go back, they would have to walk past the reminder of what God had done.
The enemy often tries to convince us that the past was better than it really was. He whispers lies about the place God delivered us from. But when we remember what God has done, those memories become roadblocks that keep us from returning to the land of less.
God did not bring you this far for you to turn around now. The only direction He calls us to go is forward.
Prayer
Lord, guard my heart from looking back to the things You have delivered me from. Help me remember the freedom You have given me and the new life You have placed before me. Strengthen my resolve to keep moving forward in Your purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
