Your Past Positions You
John 4:17-18 (NLT)
“You’re right! You don’t have a husband… you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now.”
Jesus didn’t ignore her past. He addressed it. Not to shame her, but to reveal that He saw her fully and still chose her. What she probably thought disqualified her was the very thing God would use to position her.
We spend so much time trying to distance ourselves from our past. We want to clean it up, hide it, or move beyond it quietly. But God doesn’t waste anything. The places you’ve been, the things you’ve walked through, the struggles you’ve faced… they become the very places where your voice carries weight.
The people in her town knew her story. That’s why her testimony mattered. When she came back different, they noticed. When she spoke with conviction, they listened. Her past gave her credibility with the very people she was now reaching.
God doesn’t just tolerate your past. He redeems it and uses it. What you’ve been through is not a disqualification. It’s a platform for God’s grace to be seen in a real and powerful way.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You don’t define me by my past. Help me to see how You can use every part of my story for Your purpose. Give me confidence in what You’ve brought me through, and use it to impact others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
