The Table is Still Set
Revelation 3:20
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
From the upper room to Mephibosheth’s story, one truth has remained consistent. God is a God who invites people to the table. Not perfect people, not people who have it all together, but broken, inconsistent, complicated people. The table has never been about who deserves it, it has always been about who will respond to the invitation. From the disciples who would betray Him, to a crippled man hiding in Lodabar, Scripture reveals a God who does not withdraw from weakness, He moves toward it.
The cross did not cancel the invitation, it secured it. When Jesus died and rose again, He made a way for us not just to be forgiven, but to have access. Access to God. Access to relationship. Access to a seat that we could never earn on our own. The resurrection is not just proof of His power, it is proof that the door is still open. The table is still set. The invitation is still extended.
But an invitation requires a response. Mephibosheth had to come out of hiding. Peter had to respond when Jesus called him again. The disciples had to choose whether they would remain or walk away. In the same way, you have a decision to make. You can stay where you are, defined by your past, your disappointment, and your misunderstanding of God, or you can respond to the invitation and step into what He has already made available.
Some people spend their lives close to the table but never seated. They hear about God, they think about God, they consider God, but they never fully respond. They keep the door closed. Not always intentionally, but practically. They delay, they hesitate, they wait for the right moment, and in doing so, they miss what has already been offered. But Jesus is clear. He stands at the door and knocks. He does not force His way in, but He does not stop pursuing either.
The question is not whether the table is available. The question is whether you will take your seat. Resurrection reminds us that it is not too late. Your story is not finished. What looks dead can live again. What feels lost can be restored. What seems broken can be redeemed. But it begins with a response. It begins with opening the door.
Challenge for Today: Don’t delay your response to God. Open the door. Take your seat. Step fully into the relationship He is inviting you into.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that the invitation is still open. Thank You that through Jesus You have made a way for me to come near. Give me the courage to respond fully and not hold anything back. Help me to step into the life You have called me to and to live in the fullness of Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
