Don't Miss What God is Doing
Matthew 13:31 (NKJV)
“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed…”
One of the most dangerous things in your spiritual life isn’t rebellion… it’s missing God while thinking you’re right. That’s exactly what happened in Jesus’ day. The people who knew the most Scripture, the ones who had built their lives around waiting for the Messiah, completely missed Him when He showed up.
Why? Because He didn’t look like what they expected.
They were looking for a king with power, force, and immediate takeover. What they got was a carpenter with a message about humility, surrender, and a Kingdom that didn’t operate the way they thought it should. And because it didn’t fit their framework, they dismissed it.
It’s easy to read that and think, “I would’ve seen it.” But if we’re honest, we do the same thing. We expect God to move in certain ways. We expect big, obvious, undeniable moments. But more often than not, God starts small. Subtle. Almost unnoticeable. A conversation you didn’t plan. A conviction you can’t shake. An opportunity that feels inconvenient.
I’ve seen it play out like this. Someone prays for direction, for God to move in their life, and then God gives them a small step. Something simple. Something that doesn’t feel like the breakthrough they were expecting. And instead of stepping into it, they wait for something bigger… and miss the very thing God was trying to use to get them there.
The Kingdom rarely announces itself the way we want it to. It shows up in seed form. And if you’re not paying attention, you’ll walk right past it.
Prayer:
Father, give me discernment. Help me not to miss what You are doing in my life because it doesn’t look the way I expected. Slow me down enough to recognize Your voice, Your leading, and Your hand at work. I don’t want to overlook what You’ve placed right in front of me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
