When the Heat Gets Turned Up
Acts 5:42 (NKJV)
“And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.”
There’s something about pressure that reveals what’s real.
In Matthew 13, Jesus compares the Kingdom to yeast. And yeast has an interesting quality. When the environment heats up, it expands faster. The very thing that should slow it down actually accelerates it.
You see that exact pattern in the early church. The Roman government tried to shut it down. Persecution increased. Pressure mounted. And instead of shrinking back, the church expanded. Faster than before. What was meant to stop it only spread it further.
That’s not just history… that’s a principle.
The enemy will try to turn up the heat in your life. Pressure, stress, opposition, difficulty. The assumption is that it will break you, slow you down, or cause you to retreat. But if the Kingdom is alive in you, it should have the opposite effect. It should cause growth. Expansion. Dependence on God in a deeper way than before.
Here’s the real danger though. It’s not the heat… it’s the cold.
Because yeast slows down in cold environments. And spiritually, when hearts grow cold, passion fades, conviction dulls, and growth stalls. The enemy would rather cool you off than crush you. Because a cold believer is far less dangerous than a pressured one who is still on fire.
Don’t let your fire go out.
Prayer:
Father, strengthen me in seasons of pressure. Let what the enemy meant to stop me actually grow me. Keep my heart from growing cold. Stir a fresh passion in me for Your Kingdom and Your purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
