There Should Be Evidence
Matthew 7:20
“Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”
When someone is truly born again, there will eventually be evidence of transformation. Salvation is not merely a statement someone repeats or a moment they remember. It produces fruit. A changed heart begins producing a changed life.
Chuck Colson became one of the clearest modern examples of this truth. Before his conversion, he was known as Richard Nixon’s ruthless “hatchet man” during Watergate. After surrendering his life to Christ, his identity radically changed. He eventually founded Prison Fellowship and dedicated the rest of his life to serving prisoners and their families around the world. The evidence of transformation became impossible to ignore.
The same thing happens throughout Scripture. Zacchaeus became generous. Peter became bold. Paul became humble. Nicodemus moved from secretly visiting Jesus at night to publicly helping prepare Jesus’ body for burial after the crucifixion. Real encounters with Jesus produce visible change over time.
Transformation does not happen perfectly or instantly, but it does happen genuinely. The Holy Spirit begins changing our desires, attitudes, priorities, and responses. We become more forgiving, more compassionate, more surrendered, and more obedient. The fruit does not save us, but it does reveal that new life has truly taken root.
Prayer
Father, let my life reflect the reality of what You have done in my heart. Produce fruit in me that honors You. Continue shaping me into the image of Jesus and let others see Your transformation at work in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
