A Legacy of Service
Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha.… She was full of good works and acts of charity.… All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. - Acts 9:36, 39

Acts 9 introduces us to a disciple named Tabitha, also known as Dorcas. Scripture doesn’t describe her as a preacher, apostle, or public leader. It says she was full of good works and acts of charity.
When Tabitha died, the believers sent for Peter. When he arrived, the widows gathered around him, weeping and showing him the clothing she had made for them. When they wanted Peter to understand what her life had meant, they didn’t point to a title she held or a platform she occupied. They held up the evidence of her service.
Every garment represented a person she had noticed and a need she had chosen to meet. Her ministry may have happened quietly, but its impact was standing throughout the room.
Her legacy wasn’t a platform. It was people. Her life had been stitched into the lives of those she served.
Tabitha used what she had. Something as ordinary as a needle and thread became an instrument of ministry because she placed it in God’s hands. We often imagine that making a spiritual difference requires an extraordinary ability, but God regularly uses ordinary gifts offered through willing people.
You may be holding a door, preparing coffee, caring for a child, setting up a room, leading a conversation, or sending an encouraging message. The task may appear ordinary, but when it is done in love, God can use it to leave an eternal impact.
You don’t need a microphone to minister. You don’t need a title to make a difference. You need to recognize what God has placed in your hands and be willing to use it for someone else.

What ordinary ability or resource have you overlooked because it didn’t seem spiritual enough?

Ask yourself, “What is already in my hands?”
Choose one ability, possession, or opportunity and intentionally use it to meet someone’s need.
PRAYER
God, thank You for showing me that ordinary gifts can carry extraordinary purpose. Give me eyes to notice the needs around me and a heart willing to respond. Keep me from chasing titles or recognition, and help me build a legacy in the lives of people. Take what is in my hands and use it to reveal Your love, meet needs, and strengthen Your Church. Amen.
