KEEP JESUS AT THE CENTER

They received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. Acts 2:46-47

DEVOTIONAL
The early Church was devoted to biblical teaching, fellowship, sharing meals, prayer, generosity, and caring for people in need. These were beautiful and essential expressions of life together, but none of them was allowed to replace Jesus at the center.

They praised God.

A church can have meaningful community, excellent ministries, talented musicians, inspiring preaching, effective programs, and still gradually lose its focus upon Jesus. Good things can become central things if we are not careful.

Worship continually brings our attention back to the One for whom everything exists. It reminds us that the Church does not belong to us. The service is not about us. Ministry is not ultimately about our gifts, preferences, recognition, or comfort. Jesus is the reason we gather.

That is why worship is not the warm-up for the sermon. It is not the opening act or background music for people entering the room. Worship is the Church deliberately turning its attention toward God and declaring together, "You are the reason we are here."

Our attention naturally drifts. Throughout the week, responsibilities, news, deadlines, conflict, and uncertainty compete for the center of our lives. Whatever receives the greatest share of our attention will eventually begin to feel like the greatest reality.

Worship corrects that distortion. It does not deny the reality of our responsibilities or problems. It places them beneath the greater reality of who God is.

When the Church worships, we remember that God is greater than the pressure we carried into the room. Jesus is still Lord. His grace is still sufficient. His promises are still true. His Kingdom is still advancing. Worship puts Jesus back at the center of our attention.

REFLECT
What has occupied the center of my attention lately?

Have good things gradually become more important to me than Jesus?

How does corporate worship help reorder my priorities?

TODAY'S STEP
Identify the thought or concern that has dominated your attention. During worship today, consciously place it before God and spend more time declaring who He is than rehearsing what is wrong.

PRAYER
Father, forgive me for allowing other things to take the place that belongs to You. Recenter my heart upon Jesus. Let my worship remind me that You are greater than every responsibility, distraction, and circumstance. May everything I do flow from a life that keeps You first. In Jesus' name, amen.
