EXPOSE FEAR'S STORY

“…bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" —2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJV

Devotional
Not every thought that enters your mind deserves to stay there. Fear often speaks with certainty. It does not say, “Something difficult might happen.” It says, “This is going to happen. You will not be able to handle it. Everything is going to fall apart.”

Because the thought feels urgent, we assume it must be true. But a thought is not automatically a fact. A feeling is not automatically a prophecy. Fear is not qualified to tell you how your story ends.

Paul tells us to bring our thoughts into captivity. That means we do not allow every thought that enters our minds to take control. We stop the thought. We examine it. We bring it under the authority of what God has said.

The disciples saw Jesus sleeping and concluded that He did not care. The fact was that Jesus was asleep. Fear’s story was that His silence meant He was indifferent to their suffering.

We often make the same mistake. God has not answered yet, so fear tells us He is not listening. The situation has not changed, so fear tells us He is not working. We cannot see a way forward, so fear tells us there is no way forward. Fear takes what we cannot see and fills the empty space with the worst possible explanation.

That is why we must expose the story. Ask yourself whether the thought is actually true. Do you have evidence for it, or are you imagining an outcome? Is the thought leading you toward wisdom and obedience, or toward panic and control? Does it agree with what God has revealed about His character?

Taking a thought captive does not mean replacing every difficult possibility with a guarantee that everything will work out exactly as we want. Faith does not say, “Nothing painful can happen.” Faith says, “Whatever happens, God will be with me. Fear interprets God through the storm. Faith interprets the storm through what it knows about God.

You may have to confront the same fearful thought repeatedly. That does not mean you are failing. Some thoughts have been rehearsed so often that they have become familiar paths in our minds. Every time you return to the truth, you are refusing to allow fear to deepen that path.

Examine the Story
Write down the sentence fear has been repeating to you. Do not summarize it with one word. Write the entire prediction.
Fear keeps telling me:

Now answer that story with something you know to be true about God. Do not answer with wishful thinking or a guaranteed outcome. Answer with God’s character, His presence, or His promises.

Today’s Faith Step
Every time fear repeats its prediction today, answer it with the truth you have written. Say:

“Fear may speak, but fear does not get to lead me. I will bring this thought under the authority of what God has said.”

Taking thoughts captive is rarely a single dramatic moment. It is a decision we make again and again.

Prayer
God, expose every story I have believed that contradicts who You are. Teach me not to receive every fearful thought as truth. Help me bring my thoughts under th
