The Holy Spirit – Week 7 – Knowing the Voice of the Shepherd

This week in our Holy Spirit series, we explore what it means to know the voice of the Shepherd. Starting in John 10:1-5, we look at how sheep recognize and follow their shepherd's voice because of deep, lived familiarity, not just distant knowledge. From there, we unpack four ways God speaks to His people today: through relationship, through the desires He places in our hearts, through confirmation from trusted voices around us, and through open doors He alone can open. Along the way, we hear personal stories, from a shepherd's careful call to his flock, to a decades old vision cast on a trip home from California that God brought full circle years later. We also look at Scripture in Psalm 37, James 3, 2 Corinthians 13, and Revelation 3 to see how these principles hold together. The heart of it all comes back to intimacy with God rather than a formula for hearing Him. Because the real wonder was never that the sheep know the Shepherd. It's that the Shepherd already knows the sheep, and He is calling us to walk with Him before He tells us where we're going.
