The Holy Spirit - Week 5 - Speaking in Tongues

This week in our Holy Spirit series, we open up one of the most avoided conversations in the church: speaking in tongues. In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul reminds us that every gift comes from the same Spirit, serves the same Lord, and exists for the benefit of the whole body. Together, we walk through what Scripture actually says about tongues, how they function in three distinct settings, and why love must always be the foundation from which every gift operates. Through a careful look at 1 Corinthians 12, 13, and 14, we discover that Paul never asks us to choose between character and power, between the fruit of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit. A bad experience does not get the final word and fear should never keep us from receiving everything God desires to give. The gift may get someone's attention, but the fruit shows them what Jesus is like. Do not pursue an experience more than you pursue Jesus, but do not let fear keep you from receiving everything Jesus has for you.
