Why Church - Week 6 - Why Worship

Sep 20, 2026  •  Creg Darby

This week in our Why Church series, we look at why worship matters. Starting again in Acts 2:42-47, we look at how worship keeps Jesus at the center of everything the church does, drawing on Hebrews 10:19-22 to see that we now have full access to God's presence through Christ. We look at how the rhythms of worship built in seasons of peace prepare us for the seasons of pressure, using the picture of Paul and Silas worshiping in prison in Acts 16 and the persecution the early church faced in Acts 8 after the mountaintop days of Acts 2. We walk through four ways worship shows up biblically: engaging our voice through Psalm 96:1, our hands through Psalm 63:4, our posture through Psalm 95:6, and our celebration through Psalm 47:1. Along the way we hear about first learning to worship on cassette tapes at youth camp and leading worship with just an acoustic guitar and a drum set. In the end worship is not a formula to get God to move. It is our response to who He already is and what He has already done.
